How to embedd Flash in Microsoft Powerpoint
Open PowerPoint toolbar - Control Toolbox
Insert Shockwave Flash Object into PowerPoint slide
Draw a container on the PowerPoint slide for the Flash object
Done.. and you can preview your flash inside powerpoint presentation
If you encounter problem read below...
Problems Inserting Flash Movies in PowerPoint
Are You Missing the (Custom) Setting in the Flash Object Properties?
Important Note - Make sure that all components of your presentation, including any photos and sounds as well as your Flash movie are in the same folder. Referring to the screen shot above of Properties dialog box for the Shockwave Flash object, make the following settings.
- EmbedMovie - Set this to True to make sure that your Flash movie always stays with your presentation.
- Height - The Height measurement that is listed here, is the height of the box that you drew to insert the Flash movie. If you want your movie to be a specific height, enter that number here (pixels).
- Loop - Set this option to True if you want the Flash movie to play continuously. (As an side note, I have found that this Loop function is not always reliable.)
- Movie - Type the complete path to your Flash movie. The path is the file name including the folder structure. For example, the path to my Flash movie is - C:\WR Documents\Flash Movies\my_flash_movie.swf
- Playing - Set this option to True. This will ensure that the Flash movie will play the next time you enter this PowerPoint presentation. If the setting is left at "False", your Flash movie may not play the next time you open this presentation. (It seems to be a finicky setting if left at "False" -- I found that sometimes my Flash movie played a small portion of the movie and other times it did not play at all.)
- Width - The Width measurement that is listed, is the width of the box that you drew to insert the Flash movie. If you want your movie to be a specific width, enter that number here (pixels).

Video Camcorder Tape Format
Camcorders Tape Format
Early consumer camcorders used full-size VHS or Betamax tapes. Later models switched to more compact formats like 8 mm video format (later replaced by Hi8Digital8) and VHS-C (later replaced by Super VHS-C) tape.
Presently, MiniDV is the most popular format for tape-based consumer camcorders, providing near-broadcast quality video and sophisticated nonlinear editing capability on consumer equipment; however, though intended as a digital successor to VHS, MiniDV VCRs are not widely available outside professional circles.
Sony introduced a new camcorder cassette format with MicroMV, but consumer interest was low due to the proprietary nature of the format and limited support for anything but low-end Windows video editors, and Sony shipped the last MicroMV unit in 2005.
For high definition, the most promising system seems to be HDV, which uses MiniDV media to store a roughly broadcast-quality HDTV data stream.
The latest trend in consumer camcorders is to switch from tape-based to tapeless solutions, like built-in HDDs, optical disks and solid-state media.
Interlace and Progressive Scan for video
i for interlace - p for progressive
many people confused with what is interlaced and what is progressive scan in video term.
Interlacing is a clever technical trick used to minimize picture flicker on your TV. With interlaced scanning, a TV frame is composed of two fields. One field is made up of all the odd numbered lines, while the other field is made up of all the even numbered lines. These interlaced fields are usually refered to as 50i for PAL shooting (60i in NTSC) and the frame rate is very similar to how the eye sees the world (giving a natural-looking motion blur). If you have an old fashioned (CRT) TV - and watch the news and docs then you are watching interlaced pictures.
Progressive scanning scans the whole picture frame from top to bottom (like reading a book). If you watch programmes on a Plasma screen, LCD or DLP (Digital Light Projector), then you've already been watching pictures displayed in a progressive mode (although not necessarily recorded progressively).
With cameras, progressive scanning usually leaves us with 25 frames, often refered to as 25p (30p in NTSC). This gets some people very excited, because film is also shot at 24 (or 25) frames per second. A camera that shoots true 24/25p will give you a film look without all the costs associated with film production.
If you are on a low budget and want to make video look like film make sure the camera shoots true 24p or 25p. The JVC HD100 and HD101 does. The Sony Z1 and Canon XLH1 do not. The Sony has a cineframe option and Canon just calls it Frame and refer to it in its specs as 25f (to distinguish it from true progressive - 25p). See Adam Wilt's site for his explanation on what Sony's cineframe is all about. The jury is still out on how Panasonic will process 24/25p.
For a very good explanation with animated pictures on progressive and interlaced pictures see www.avdeals.ca/classroom/Proscanexplained.htm - it is more biased to the American audience but the explanation should still be of use to us PAL people. There is also a good explanation of interlaced and progressive scan at Avis communications.
I'd also recommend you look at the excellent Ken Stone site for more info on 24/25p and editing (with Final Cut Pro)Tweak for faster mozilla firefox
here some tweak that you can use to make firefox load faster
Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining,
network.http.proxy.pipelining,
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" by double-clicking it.
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" by double-clicking it.
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 8 by double-clicking it. This means it will make requests at once. There is no point setting it higher then 8 as it is capped at 8 max. [The default value for this setting is 4]
Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
OTHER TIPS:
- Alternately, you could install Fasterfox, an extension which does some of this automatically, and makes tuning easier.
- For more information on Firefox Tuning see the Firefox Tuning sticky thread at the independent MozillaZine forums.
- Also the MozillaZine Knowledge Base on Network entries in about:config and what they do.
- You can also run Firefox in your RAM (no reading from the HD means faster Firefox) by following this article.
- If you have problems like slow down, pages not loading or images loading weird, just undo the tweaks in about:config
- You can also do this in the Internet explorer browser, In opera an alternative is: go to opera:config and go to performance. Then change the max number of connections to 32
Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid ???
FCP tends to be more popular amongst professional editors, although this can also be attributed to the popularity of Mac vs Windows in the same market. It is often said that FCP is more stable and/or faster than Premiere, but this is more a reflection on the operating system than the software. Having said this, in my experience Premiere is very stable on a well-configured Windows system.
The next version of Premiere will see a return to Macintosh support so it will be interesting to see how the two compare on the same platform.
Both Premiere and FCP are standalone video editing applications, and both are available as part of larger software bundles. The bundles are highly recommended in both cases, giving you much more power and flexibility over things like audio, graphics, etc.
The practical differences between Premiere and FPC are minor. It's also worth noting that when one application has a feature the other lacks, the gap is often closed in the next round of releases. Don't base your decision on a feature of one product unless you are sure it isn't going to be introduced or upgraded by the other product in the near future.
If you want the best and money is no object, FCP is usually the way to go. On the other hand, you can get essentially the same functionality from Adobe for a lot less money. This is especially true if you already own a PC capable of running Premiere but would have to buy new hardware for FCP.
One fact in Premiere's favour that is that it integrates very well with After Effects (video compositing) and Photoshop (for graphics). Both these products are very highly regarded, industry standard software. When purchased as part of a software bundle, Adobe products form a seamless package that operates almost like a single application.
FCP is a very good editing tool and I have used this quite a bit and I still do sometimes. Unfortunately I can't say too many good things about FCP because I'm just so used to using Premiere Pro. FCP compared to Avid is like Honda versus a Ferrari. The problem I face with FCP among other things, is that it runs only on Macs and as everyone knows Macs are fairly expensive compared to similar specification PC system. With the integration of Intel chips in Macs things change a little, in the mean time I'll stick to Premiere.
Avid used to be my least favourite editing software because it is just so different from other editing packages and you have to be very technical to learn to use an Avid system, but over time I have come to love it. Avid comes in all price ranges because there are so many different types of Avid systems (Avid Xpress, Xpress HD, Adrenaline, DS etc.) Some you can run on a regular PC others you need special hardware. The thing I like about Avid is that the effects are real-time, meaning when I apply a transition or something I don't have to wait for it to render to see the effect; I can see it right away. I also like it because of it's color correcting capabalities, it's integration with ProTools and the ability to customize everything. One thing I don't like about Avid is the way it handles media files. It dumps all media (audio/video) into one OMFI directory. Which becomes almost impossible to backup or manage manually.
One final word; it doesn't matter what you use to edit as long as you know what you are doing. World's best software in the hands of an amature will not get you an Oscar.
